Australian Department of Health and Ageing
The services provided by the Health and Ageing Portfolio are delivered through nine Portfolio Outcomes.

The Department of Health and Ageing pursues the achievement of the Portfolio Outcomes in association with other agencies in the Portfolio. These are the Health Insurance Commission, the Private Health Insurance Administration Council, the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman, the Professional Services Review Scheme, the Food Standards Australia New Zealand, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Australian Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety Authority and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.



Drug and Alcohol Services Council
DASC is the principal government funded service provider, and acts as adviser to the Minister for Health and the Department of Human Services, through the Drugs Strategy & Programs Branch, on all alcohol and other drug related matters. DASC represents the state at the Commonwealth level on relevant policy matters.


National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) consolidates within a single national organisation the often independent functions of research funding and development of advice.

Next Step Specialist Drug & Alcohol Services
Next Step is a sub-group of The Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO). It aims to fulfill priorities which include:

Developing Next Step as a centre for clinical excellence for the Alcohol and Drug sector;
Providing evidence-based practice and undertaking clinical research;
Expanding services delivered by Next Step; and
Working more closely with the non-government sector.


Queensland Health Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Services (ATODS)
This website is a resource for alcohol and drug workers in QLD.

The Alcohol and Illicit Drugs section of the Australian Institute of Criminology
The Australian Institute of Criminology is the national focus for the study of crime and criminal justice in Australia and for the dissemination of criminal justice information. The Institute draws on information supplied to it by a wide variety of sources and its policy advice is objective and independent.



Alcohol Info Website
The NSW Government has recently launched a website on alcohol issues. It outlines NSW Government policies on alcohol, alcohol advertising and the role of the community in reducing alcohol abuse. The site includes 'Changing the Culture on Alcohol Use in NSW', the Government's response to the 2003 Summit on Alcohol Abuse.

Druginfo
Druginfo is the official NSW Government website on drug issues. It is
a portal site and outlines the NSW Government policy on drug abuse. It
includes links to factsheets on illicit drugs, information on legal
issues, and information on the role of parents, families, and the
broader community in reducing drug abuse.

The purpose of the site is to help people access drug information
which is consistent with the national harm minimisation policy and its
key tenets: harm reduction, demand reduction, and supply reduction.

National Drugs Campaign
The National Drugs Campaign is a national community information drug prevention campaign.

The National Drugs Campaign aims to educate young people about the negative consequences of drug use, model positive alternatives to drug use, and provide information about where to access support services for those in need.

The campaign also encourages parents to talk to their children about drugs to discourage youth drug use, and seeks to build on relationships and increase connectedness in families.

Drug Policy Modelling program (DPMP)
The DPMP website is designed for both policy makers and researchers. It serves to provide information on illicit drug policies and tools for policy makers but also on the current and completed work of the DPMP research team.

The DPMP website contains comprehensive information about illicit drug policies including:

  • An overview of DPMP and information about us
  • Links to national and state policy documents
  • Statistical data on rates of drug use
  • Analysis of policy options under the section what works
  • Tools and methods for both researchers and policy makers

    Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia:
    The Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia (ADCA) is the peak, national, non-government organisation representing the interests of the Australian alcohol and other drugs sector, providing a national voice for people working to reduce the harm caused by alcohol and other drugs.


    Australian Drug Foundation (ADF)
    The Australian Drug Foundation (ADF) is an independent, non-profit organisation that has worked for over 40 years to prevent and reduce alcohol and other drug problems in the Australian community.

    The ADF is a leading provider of drug prevention services accessible to the whole community.

    Their work focuses on research, information, community development and education, and advocacy.



    Drug and Alcohol Multicultural Education Centre:
    The Drug and Alcohol Multicultural Education Centre (DAMEC) is a state wide, non-profit, non government organisation funded by South East Sydney Area Health Service.

    DAMEC's primary focus is to bridge the service gap by assisting and supporting Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (AT&OD) service providers to make a difference to the way they access and service Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (C&LD) client.



    Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA)
    DANA supports the professional development of nurses working in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug field.

    Hepatitis C Council of NSW
    We are an independent community-based organisation providing information, support and advocacy to people affected by hepatitis C in New South Wales, Australia.



    National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA)
    NCETA is a research centre concerned with investigating workforce development in alcohol and other drugs field.

    National Drug Research Institute (NDRI)
    The purpose of NDRI is to contribute to the overall aim of the National Drug Strategy, which is to minimise the harm associated with drug use. It does so by undertaking research designed to establish the preventive potential of a number of interventions: legislative, fiscal, regulatory and educational.

    NDRI complements the role of its Sydney-based sister organisation, the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC), whose primary focus is on treatment.



    Western Australia Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA)
    The Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (WANADA) is the peak body for the alcohol and other drug (AOD) education, prevention, treatment and support sector in Western Australia. Since its establishment in 1984, WANADA’s membership has developed to reflect a ‘whole-of-community’ approach to AOD issues. WANADA is an independent, membership-driven not-for-profit association. Paid staff are supervised by an elected board of management comprising agency delegates and individuals drawn from the membership



    Virtual Clearinghouse on Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
    The Virtual Clearinghouse on Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (VCATOD) is supported by a partnership that draws on the strengths of a number of collaborating organizations in Europe, the Americas, Austral-Asia, and Africa. Partners share the workload of building the Virtual Clearinghouse site by contributing document links from their own sites, and by participating in governance and advisory committees.



    Oceania Harm Reduction Coalition
    The Centre for Harm Reduction brings together people working throughout Asia, and globally, with expertise in the prevention of drug related harm: in particular the prevention of transmission of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C among and from injecting drug users.

    Asian Harm Reduction Network
    The Asian Harm Reduction Network (AHRN) is the first project of its kind. A global information and support network, created to link and support the courageous people and programs working in Asia to stop HIV among injecting drug users. Hundreds of individuals and organizations participate in the network and AHRN is endorsed by UNAIDS, the World Health Organization and many governments who see harm reduction and networking as key approaches in the fight against HIV/AIDS.


    Alcohol & Public Health Research Unit, University of Auckland
    The Alcohol & Public Health Research Unit is an independent, peer reviewed research organisation with an international reputation. We are based in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, New Zealand.



    The National Addiction Centre
    The National Addiction Centre (formerly the National Addiction Centre (Alcohol, Drugs & Addiction) was established by the Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand (ALAC) in 1996 particularly as a resource for the alcohol and drug treatment fields of New Zealand

    Addiction Treatment and Psychology Service’s is a safe, effective and holistic approach for individuals addicted to heroin, morphine, opium, some pain medications and methadone. Based on rigorous data collection, research and a commitment to excellence, our three-stage program is another treatment régime against addiction, through providing safe and effective detoxification in combination with intensive psychosocial services.



    Mental Health Association NSW Inc
    The Mental Health Association NSW Inc promotes opportunities for the people of NSW to achieve their optimal level of mental health through providing information services, education, mutual support and advocacy services

    Register of Australian Drug and Alcohol Research
    RADAR, a project of the Alcohol and other Drugs Council of Australia, aims to promote awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs research in Australia.

    The register contains up-to-date records of current and recently completed research projects with details of published research. There is also information about researchers, their organisations and research funding bodies.

    National Drugs Sector Information Service
    ADCA's National Drugs Sector Information Service is committed to supporting those who work to prevent or reduce the harm to individuals, families, communities and the nation caused by alcohol and other drugs. It identifies and disseminates the evidence base and facilitates the application of good practice, focusing its collections and services on the knowledge and information needs of AOD professionals, practitioners and researchers.

    National Inhalants Information Service
    The National Inhalants Information Service (NIIS) is the first central online service in Australia that provides information about inhalant abuse. The service is designed to provide information, research and support for the Australian community, parents & teachers, alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers and other professionals assisting users of inhalants.
