The Australasian Professional
Society on Alcohol and other Drugs (APSAD). APSAD is dedicated to
raising awareness about the problems related to the use of alcohol
and other drugs, and to promoting improved standards in clinical practice
and in research into this and allied subjects.
APSAD offers two major forms of professional development for health professionals. The first is the Society's scientific journal, the Drug and Alcohol Review. The second is the Annual Drug and Alcohol Conference.
About the Society
APSAD was established in 1981. Membership of APSAD has grown steadily and is now well over 350, with members across Australia as well as New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and a number of other countries.
APSAD has worked with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) to establish the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine within the Adult Medicine Division of the RACP. This Chapter will provide specialist training in Addiction Medicine and represent the interests of specialists in the field.
APSAD offers a range of other activities for members. A conference
is held annually, with this year's conference scheduled to take place in
Sydney, 23-26 November 2008. Regional conference and workshops are
also supported, often jointly with other professional organisations.
APSAD also produces a quarterly newsletter, to keep members up-to-
date and provide a forum for discussion.
The Drug and Alcohol Review is the Society's official journal. Celebrating its 27th year of publication, the journal is listed on the international database, Medline. Published bi-monthly as of 2005, the Review presents original research, policy development and information in the drug and alcohol research field.
