Membership of APSAD runs from 1 July to 30 June each financial year. Renewals and payments should be made by 1 August each year. Members joining later in the financial year will receive full benefits including access to current and back issues of the Drug and Alcohol Review. Renewal notices are emailed to all members in June.

STUDENTS

What is a student?

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree,
  • Full-time study, or
  • Part-time study with a gross income < $35,000/pa (not including scholarship money)
  • Students may be studying but are not limited to: medicine, pharmacology, public policy, psychology, social work, sociology, criminology, public health, mental health/psychiatry, counselling, nursing, economics and rehabilitation counselling.

What do I need to apply for membership as a student?

Applications for student membership must include;
  • a copy of your student ID,
  • the name of the institution where you are studying,
  • the course you are enrolled in,
  • how far into the course you are and the length of the course and,
  • your Supervisor's name and signature on the application.

Membership renewal only requires a copy of your student ID.


DANA AFFILIATE

Exclusively for financial DANA members, this option provides a reduced fee on APSAD membership with full membership to both APSAD and DANA. APSAD and DANA have enjoyed a close relationship for many years, this initiative flows from that relationship.

DANA is the Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia. DANA is the peak nursing organisation in Australasia for nurses, nurse practitioners  and midwives with a professional interest in alcohol and other drug issues. DANA also welcomes others who share the aims of DANA, to promote collaborative partnerships that aim to achieve similar goals.

APSAD members are also able to join DANA at a reduced rate.


SUBSCRIBER - APSAD DISCUSSION FORUMS$0

This is not APSAD membership. Being a subscriber only allows you to post and comment on APSAD discussion forums, receive the member newsletter, receive webinar and training emails, and access past webinars and presentations on our VIMEO channel.

This category does not include any additional member benefits, such as discounts to events, access to the Drug and Alcohol Review, Journal of Smoking Cessation, or reduced subscription rates to the annual conference and annual state-based symposia.

There is no fee for Subscribers.


ORGANISATIONAL MEMBERSHIP

APSAD relies on individual memberships for its survival. The primary aim of granting organisational membership is to ensure equitable access to APSAD's services and journal, for groups who may be disadvantaged by distance, funding or number of staff eligible for membership.

Organisations can change their membership level each year to correspond to the number of reduced fee conference registrationsrequired.

Organisational membership is granted at the discretion of the Membership Committee.

Organisational Members have access to all APSAD Membership benefits except for the rights to:

  • vote at general meetings and elections
  • hold office
  • represent APSAD in any way

  • significantly reduced registration fee for APSAD’s Annual Scientific Alcohol and Drug Conference (number dependant on membership size chosen)

Organisational members do not have the right to vote at meetings, in elections, or to hold office.

HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP

In addition, APSAD offers Honorary Life Membership to selected long-time members of the Society. An individual person will be entitled to be an Honorary Life Member if the person is invited by the Council to be an Honorary Life Member in recognition of distinguished achievement in furthering the objectives of the Society. Eligibility for Honorary Life Membership is determined by the Council in its sole discretion.
